High school student sues coaches for outing her to mother

The Kilgore (Texas) News Herald reports:

The mother of a Kilgore High School senior is suing the school and several of its employees in federal court, alleging that her daughter’s right to privacy was violated when she was forced to disclose her sexual orientation…

The suit names as defendants Kilgore Independent School District, coaches Rhonda Fletcher and Cassandra Newell, as well as assistant athletic director Douglas Duke.

According to a press release issued Monday, the plaintiffs are seeking unspecified compensatory damages and an injunction to stop faculty at KISD from “compromising students’ privacy and subjecting them to the unnecessary risk of harassment and trauma by disclosing their sexual orientation without consent.”
